To love is to be human

Imagine walking into a room and before You even utter a word, You’re judged and profiled because of your ethnicity. Ethnic profiling has done us more harm than good, as a multi-ethnic and multicultural nation we must as a matter of urgency lay to rest these tendencies, they have held us back for far too long.

I understand that You’ve heard so many stories, how about giving people the benefit of doubt, let’s judge each person on the basis of their actions. We are humans first, our ethnicity gives us our uniqueness, let’s all rise above hate.

Together let us put an end to Tribalism, Racism and all forms of intolerance.

To love is to be human!

With Love,

The Creativist’s Journey

When it seems like what You’re doing is insignificant and You’re finding it hard to keep doing the work and putting in the time, know that what You’re doing right now, in this very moment, matters! In the grand scheme of things, the majority of our results are the aggregation of our daily routines.

I understand that it gets tiring and laborious, the path You’ve chosen, the Creativist’s journey is no ordinary path. On this journey there are many distractions, the temptation to look at other people’s gardens, wishing You had the life they now live…

Your life matters, Your journey matters. The things we do add up, in ways we can’t really explain… This tenacity and patience I am referring to is not blind optimism, it doesn’t ignore road signs, it takes in feedback, it is iterative, ultimately it is ever evolving!

Welcome to the Creativist’s Journey,

Remember, always be creating!

There is that immense feeling of pride associated with birthing an idea, designing or creating something, this feeling can be illusive on some days and on others, ever present. I felt it today, even though for just a brief moment, It felt empowering and it is incredible.

The goal for me, is to get these small wins that will aggregate to the big win we dream about.

We eat an elephant; one bite at a time. (Is PS, I don’t mean a literal elephant).

Bright C. Emeka,

Love and empathy

Love is a powerful force, in the face of overwhelming hate and chaos, love was the answer God gave. He sent His son to die because He loved us this much.

Messages get lost in translation mostly due to the way and manner it was conveyed. While trying to correct someone You believe to be wrong, apply empathy, if we knew better, we will do better. In our own lives there are areas too where we are ignorant, empathy helps us correct in love.

The bible says to treat others as we want to be treated (Luke 6:31), this is empathy. In another verse it says to love Your neighbor as you love Yourself (Mark 12:31), this too is empathy. Putting ourselves in ourselves in the shoes of others will help us understand their actions and contextualize their experiences.

Greet this day with love.

I will greet this day with love in my heart.

But how will I react to the actions of others? With love. For just as love is my weapon to open the hearts of people, love is also my shield to repulse the arrows of hate and the spears of anger. Adversity and discouragement will beat against my new shield and become as the softest of rains. My shield will protect me in the marketplace and sustain me when I am alone. It will uplift me in moments of despair yet it will calm me in time of exultation. It will become stronger and more protective with use until one day I will cast it aside and walk unencumbered among all manners of people and, when I do, my name will be raised high on the pyramid of life.

I will greet this day with love in my heart.

The Scroll Marked II (an excerpt from – The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino)

I will greet this day with love in my heart.

You might be wrong

It is okay for your values to change in the face of new evidence; You’re human, we are fallible and have the ability to process and receive new information.

Seek enlightenment; there was a time, Pluto was considered a planet, not so anymore… The earth was formally assumed to be flat, well that was until Ferdinand Magellan successfully traveled around the earth (1519-1521) as a definitive proof of a spherical earth.

Understand that there is a chance, you might be wrong, heck I might even be wrong, but let’s keep an open mind. Verify new information, process it, adjust where necessary, adapt and thrive!

Nothing justifies RAPE!!!

I have been thinking about what to do and how to speak up against the continued rape cases happening around the country, to even think that these cases pale in comparison to the countless cases that never get reported; is truly heartbreaking and disgusting. It is scary what women and girls go through, the fear is paralyzing, Nothing justifies RAPE!!!

Victim shaming or blaming is wrong on all levels. There is need for stiffer legislation and punishment for perpetrators. Let us collectively take a stand against this monstrous act; Men and boys let us do better!!!

Say no to RAPE!!!

53 years on, still sad to remember, stories passed on, Uncles, Aunties, Husbands, Mothers, children that never returned home, massacred and murdered.

Been ruminating on what to write or say, but I am finding it hard to describe the gut-wrenching feeling. Nothing justifies the killings.

For today I will say, ozoemena!!!

Our Collective Progress

People will hold opinions, views and values that differ from yours, the world is not unary, it is a complex and free world. Every day our humanity is called to question; violence, corruption, injustices in various guises, these and more are the bane of our peaceful co-existence.

I believe there is hope, the true transformation we desire is possible, not easy but possible. We need each other, humans were not meant to live in isolation, so, let us tear down the walls that separate us; the misconceptions that has held us back. Tolerance and acceptance of our humanity will help us transcend these barriers.

I commit to doing my best wherever I find myself for our collective progress.

I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone – if possible – Jew, Gentile – black man – white. We all want to help one another.

We can do this!

Documenting the Journey NOTES

One day at a time

We all have grandiose visions and goals, we want our name in shinning lights and all the glitz and glamour that come with stardom.

Getting to this desired destination takes time, effort, patience and more.

Taking it one step at a time, can do us a world of good. Sometimes all you can do is that one task, that one call, that one screen design, implementing that one feature. Know that, it is okay, You are making progress, You can do this! I’m rooting for You!

The commitment to improvement and growth can be an arduous journey, some days are better than others. In moments of heightened euphoria, all seems glorious, then come the struggles and angst of the lows; this is the process You’ve chosen.

You carry this burden because You have a dream of what lies ahead. Your mind’s eye has pictured the destination clearly, you see it and it drives You. You understand the pain is a given, you take it on like a soldier. The pain doesn’t break You, it makes You stronger!

You know that You are meant for this! A life of Creativity, it beckons on You, You feel the need to do more, the need to get better, you understand the thrills that come with seeing your creation in its splendor, this is what You live for, You create!

Why choose this path, Why go through all this? If not this, what else is there? A life of mediocrity, no, no, no… Your place is among the stars, You know You were meant for more, do More! Create!

I do not choose to be a common man.
It is my right to be uncommon … if I can.
I seek opportunity … not security.
I do not wish to be a kept citizen,
Humbled and dulled by having the State look after me.
I want to take the calculated risk,
To dream and to build. To fail and to succeed.
I refuse to barter incentive for a dole;
I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence;
The thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of Utopia.
I will not trade freedom for beneficence
Nor my dignity for a handout
I will never cower before any master
Nor bend to any threat.
It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid;
To think and act for myself,
To enjoy the benefit of my creations
And to face the world boldly and say:
This, with God’s help, I have done.

Excerpt from Common Sense, written in 1776 by Thomas Paine

I commit to be uncommon, I commit to a life of creativity, I am made in the likeness and image of God and in His image I have creativity. I create, I design, I am uncommon, I am the Design Maestro!!!

A.B.C. – Always be creating!
